Friday 02 Apr 2010Under 17s - League
Sundays Well (17) vs Cobh Pirates (12)
Middleton RFC, 12:00PM
The Under 17 team showed tremendous character to win the league title today beating Cobh side 17-12.
Playing against the wind in the first half, we soon found ourselves 12 nil down, thanks to 2 tries and a conversion by Cobh.
The character, which has been there all season came through with determination and guts by the lads. Just before half time, Craig O Sullivan finished a very good move to score a well deserved try, leaving the score 12-5.
The lads were asked to get the first score in the second half, and duly obliged with a fine try scored by Chris Fergusion, which came from the best maul of the season, Olan Hanley converted which leveled the score. Shortly afterwards Kody scored a try which was well deserved.
Cobh to their credit tried very hard to come back into the game, each time they tried to score they were repelled by an excellent defence.
Our squad was as follows.
Stephen O Sullivan, Adam Flood, Zach Sheehan, Chris Fergusson, Eoin O Connell, Brian McAuliffe, Craig O Sullivan, Conor Malone, Ryan McGrath Captain, Eamon Kelliher, Kody Ogbene, Cathal Kidney, Olan Hanley, Otto Cronje, Alex O Neill. Jullian McCarthy, Cian Carroll, Luke Bridgeman, Luke Coughlan, Peter Stack, Carl Rafferty.
The focus now changes to the plate game away to Kinsale on Wednesday.
Thanks to all those who supported us today.
Special thanks to Midleton for hosting the game.
And to the lads in the squad, Paudie, Mick and I are very proud of each and every one of you.
Mick O Brien
