Sundays Well U10s V Highfield B

Sundays Well U10s V Kinsale

The U10s travelled to Model Farm road last Saturday expecting to play one match against Highfield and ended up playing 3 matches!

The first match against Highfield A started very well and by half time we were up 5-0. Jack Kelly was in his element as was Alex Murphy who enjoyed running at the opposition and both Charlie and Jack Shiels were up for it in order to earn bragging rights against friends playing with Highfield. Gearoid and Darragh were hauled down inches from the line after making some fantastic runs and Diarmuid was bundled into touch twice in quick succession. Both teams made some changes at half time and Highfield scored 4 tries to ensure a close finish to the game. However a final score by Darragh on the stroke of full time ensured a 6 – 4 victory to our team.

The second match against a spirited Highfield B side also started well and even though we left Highfield into the game our guys came away with a 3 -1 win. Sean and Peter made some fine charges and an excellent bone-crushing cover tackle by Alex saved a certain try.

Our final match against Kinsale was a different story altogether. This match was played at a frenetic pace and almost in a cup final atmosphere. The ferocity of the tackling and rucking by the Kinsale team was something the Well had not encountered all season. We leaked a try in the first couple of minutes but Alex Guerin made a fine steal and who ran up the touchline to level the scores. Kinsale came back at us really hard and hitting the rucks aggressively. The Well did not back down; the Well stood up to the challenge; the Well gave back as good as they got! This was a smashing contest and despite our lads keeping the Kinsale team at bay, a bombardment on our own line eventually earned Kinsale a try.

Our lads did not lie down and again attacked the Kinsale defences each member of the Well making telling probing runs. And on a turnover ball and after the Kinsale defence had been sucked into the ruck, Tiernan broke away to score the equaliser. A great team effort ensured we shared the spoils against probably the toughest team we have played all year. A 2 – 2 scoreline was a fair result. Well done the U10s!
